Here we have another beautifully illustrated children’s book by Henry Hertz and his two sons. I adored Nimpentoad and found Monster Goose Nursery Rhymes quite charming. When You Give An Imp a Penny doesn’t disappoint!
I think this is a great book for kids and adults to read out loud, it being full of rhymes and silly things to say. Of course the star of the story is the imp and I love how his facial expressions change throughout the tale. Illustrator Abigail Larson did a great job with this book!
The imp interacts with the young lady of the house. She is kind enough to give him a penny, but then one little think leads to another. A coin bag is needed, a shovel, etc. Each task leads to some other mess being made. The imp has quite the list of chores to complete! In the end, kindness wins out when anger or frustration would have been expected. Additionally, I enjoyed the facial expression of the cat while it endures a bath!
I received a copy of this book at no cost from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
