I recently re-read this book as an audio on Audible.com. It was a very good performance by voice actor Euan Morton - and included singing.
This book focuses on the troubadour element of culture and history shaping. Blase is the estranged son of one of the leading families of austere, God fearing land. He has made his way to woman-ruled Arbonne, working as a mercenary. And one of his first jobs is to kidnap a troubadour. Gently. From the Goddess's isle.
I love all of GGK's works. But this one in particular does an excellent job of capturing his word smithing, world building, and beauty of prose.
